About NWA
The National Workforce Association is a membership organization dedicated to strengthening the nation's workforce development system. Formerly called the National Association of County Training and Employment Professionals, NWA is one of the largest of over 23 affiliates with NACo (National Association of Counties). NWA has two primary goals:
- Provide expertise and input to federal, state and local elected officials to enable them to make sound policy decisions about the workforce system
- Promote innovation and excellent performance in locally based workforce programs through conferences, training sessions, publications and peer-to-peer exchanges
NWA members are directors and staff of workforce investment areas, One-Stop Centers, service providers, educational institutions and state associations representing workforce professionals and corporations. Anyone with an interest in workforce issues is welcome to join. NWA brings workforce development partners together!
What is the Difference between the National Workforce Association and USA Works?
The National Workforce Association (NWA) is a 501(c)(3) membership organization eligible to receive support from federal funding. Furthermore, these funds allow NWA to facilitate associations or relationships with think tanks, foundations and the private sector, as well as educating Members of Congress and the general public about the workforce system. NWA focuses on the following specific areas:
- Policy development
- Annual conference
- Long-term vision for the workforce system
- The global economy
- Workforce Investment Act reauthorization
- Job training in the larger context of American competitiveness
In contrast, USA Works! Inc. is a 501(c)(4) political advocacy organization, which is not allowed to solicit federal funds for its operations. It operates solely with the support of non-federal funds. USA Works! actively advocates for the development and implementation of political and federal strategies on issues and concerns that affect the workforce system, such as legislation and appropriations. Our two organizations are separate entities that work together.
In essence, the National Workforce Association develops the vision of the 21st Century workforce system and USA Works! brings this vision to life.
